Many people are put off the idea of having dental implants because they imagine the whole process will be time consuming and painful, when in fact the very opposite is the case. Having a single dental implant placed is a quick procedure, and can typically be done in around an hour.

Process and Procedure

After you have visited your dentist for the initial consultation and have decided that implants are the correct solution, you will be given a time to return to have the dental implant procedure done. The dentist will start by giving you an injection of local anaesthetic to numb your gum and ensure you feel no pain at all. Once your gum is numb, it will be opened up to allow the dentist to drill the hole in the jaw and insert the dental implant. Once that is in place, a temporary tooth will be placed on the implant if the bone is strong enough to allow immediate loading. This whole procedure will take less than an hour, so having a single dental implant procedure is something which is simple and quick.

After Care

After the anaesthetic wears off, a small amount of pain may be experienced, as is the case with any minor surgery or dental procedure. This can be easily managed at home by taking over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol. You will then have to return to the dentist at a later date to have your permanent implant crown fitted onto the thread, and then have further checks at a later date to ensure your implant is functioning normally.
