The Surgery
Dental Implant pain is often the first thought of a patient undergoing dental implant procedures. This is not the case. During the appointment you will have local anaesthetic so that you do not feel any part of the procedure. This is just like having a filling done.
The first 24 hours following Surgery
To avoid dental implant pain it is important to rest, ice and take your prescribed medications. Vigorous exercise will increasee swelling in the area and cause pains. So resting, icing and taking pain relief. More instructions here
The next few days
Over the next few days, medications will ensure you are 100% comfortable as the swelling or discomfort goes away. In most simple dental implant treatments, patients will only require pain relief for the first 24 hours after surgery, however it is ok and normal to take anti-inflammatory pain medicaitons for three-four days.
After Healing Dental Implant pains?
Dental implant pain should not occur after the initial healing. You need to visit your dentist or implant dentist becuase you may have tartar around the dental implant and be developing a gum infection, or otherwise something may have become loose in teh dental implant and your dentist will be easily able to fix this back tight before you do any further damage.
How to avoid dental implant pain?
Follow the instructions after your dental implant surgery. In the first two months, keep your diet light in the dental implant area whilst the bone is osseo-integrating to the implant, so that you do not overload the implant to bone junction.
Take prescribed medications during initial healing.
Return to your dentist every six months for cleaning and check-ups.
Appropriate flossing, brushing and caring for your dental implant tooth.
If your gums become painful around a tooth or dental implant, go see your dentist.
